WEST ELSDON — A 26-year-old woman was in serious condition after being shot during a home invasion near Midway Airport Thursday afternoon, police said.

At 4 p.m., three men knocked on the woman's door to her basement in the 5900 block of South Kenneth and one of them shot the woman as she opened the door, said Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

One of the men was wearing a postal workers uniform. All three appeared to be 25 to 30 years old. They pushed their way into the home and then ran away after the shooting, police said.

The woman was shot in her chest and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, Amezaga said.

The incident occurred about three blocks east of the airport entrance.

Residents told ABC7 a man with disabilities lives at the address and a wheelchair ramp is in front of the house.
