CHICAGO — The Southeast Side has been hit by eight armed robberies since the end of March, police said.
Police said the robberies are part of three strings led by different suspects.
During some of the incidents, a man walked up to his victim, took out a gun and stole the victim's cellphone, police said. Those robberies occurred:
• 1:10 a.m. April 12 in the 8700 block of South Saginaw
• 1 a.m. April 22 in the 8600 block of South Saginaw
• 11:53 p.m. April 22 in the 8700 block of South Colfax
The thief was described as a black teen or man who is 16 to 20 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-9 and 140-160 pounds, police said. He had an afro and light complexion, police said.
During three other cellphone robberies, police also said a man walked up to his victim, took out a gun and took the victim's phone. But that suspect is described as a 23- to 29-year-old black man who is 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9, 150-180 pounds and has an afro and dark complexion, police said.
Those robberies occurred:
• 8:02 p.m. March 30 in the 7800 block of South Cregier
• 6:15 a.m. April 5 in the 7800 block of South Constance
• 7:20 a.m. April 5 in the 8200 block of South Chapell
Another two robberies have also been reported in the area, police said, though those robberies featured one or two men. Those robberies occurred:
• 3:50 a.m. April 27 in the 8900 block of South Paxton
• 11:43 p.m. April 28 in the 8900 block of South Paxton
The thieves are described as a 20- to 30-year-old black man who is 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds, police said. Another thief is described only as being 5-foot-8, police said.
