NEW EASTSIDE — Mayor Rahm Emanuel hopped on an unattended police bike Monday and took it for a joy ride on Lower Lower Wacker Drive.

Following a news conference touting this summer's construction of Jeanne Gang's new Vista Tower at 445 E. Lower Wacker Drive, Emanuel discovered one of the fully loaded police bikes unattended as an officer did some nearby traffic directing. He hopped on and took it for a brief spin on Lower Lower Wacker.

Emanuel returned the bike to the officer with a slap on the shoulder.

Emanuel has expanded the police bike program as a way of improving community policing and local patrols. He himself is a skilled cyclist as a triathlete.
