CHICAGO — A 24-year-old man and a 50-year-old man were wounded in separate shooting incidents on the West Side early Sunday, according to police.

A 50-year-old man was wounded in an Austin shooting that started as a robbery, said Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was on the sidewalk in the 4900 block of West Superior Street at 6:11 a.m. when a grey car pulled up and a man inside got out before announcing a robbery, Estrada said. The would-be robber then opened fire, striking the 50-year-old in his chest, Estrada said.

He was brought to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, Estrada said. Police aren't sure if the man was robbed of his possessions.

The 24-year-old man was shot while riding as a passenger in a car in Belmont Cragin, said Officer Jose Estrada, Chicago Police spokesman. At about 4:10 a.m., the man was in a car driving in the 3300 block of North Laramie Avenue when someone in a black SUV that had been following the car opened fire, Estrada said.

The man was struck in his back and managed to get himself to Community First Medical Center before being transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was listed as "stable," Estrada said. Police could not detail the extent of his injuries.

No arrests have been made in either shooting, Estrada said.
