DOWNTOWN — Two new hotels are coming Downtown, including one on top of the Oriental Theatre in the Loop.

Cambria hotels, a new brand here, will open a 198-room hotel on the upper floors of the 22-story building housing the historic Loop theater. A developer also plans to re-brand the MileNorth Chicago, 166 E. Superior St., off Michigan Avenue into a 215-room Cambria Hotel & Suites next year.

The Oriental Theatre, which is now formally called the Ford Center for the Performing Arts, 24 W. Randolph St., will remain after the new hotel upstairs opens in September 2017.

"The Loop is recognized as the epicenter of the city with convenient access to both business and lifestyle entertainment options in Chicago," developer John T. Murphy, who is behind the Loop hotel project, said in a statement. "We are confident that the Cambria Hotel & Suites Chicago — City Center will be a prime addition to the city."

Murphy, a prolific developer here, last year converted the landmarked Chicago Motor Club Building, 68 E. Wacker Place, to a Hampton Inn and a vintage office tower at 100 W. Monroe St. to a Hyatt Centric hotel. A venture led by Murphy bought the upper floors of the theater building at 32 W. Randolph St., formerly office space, and once planned apartments there before deciding on a new hotel.

San Francisco-based Fillmore Capital Partners, through its Fillmore Hospitality arm, plans the conversion of the Mag Mile hotel, which is expected to open mid-2017.

Cambria is a brand owned by Rockville, Md.-based Choice Hotels, which also owns Comfort Inn, Econo Lodge and other brands.

The Oriental Theatre project was first reported by Crain's. Check out these renderings of the new hotels before they open:
