BEVERLY — The Original Rainbow Cone will begin serving its iconic ice cream cones May 7 at Navy Pier.

The Beverly-based ice cream vendor announced its new downtown location via social media Friday afternoon.

Accompanying the news came a picture of the signature cone that includes chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (described as New York vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio ice creams and orange sherbet that are sliced rather than scooped.

Rainbow Cone will operate from a small kiosk across from the Riva Restaurant on Navy Pier. The hours will be 11 a.m.-8 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. weekends. The kiosk will stay open until midnight at the height of summer, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

Also announced on its Facebook page, Rainbow Cone said it will again give free small cones to all moms on Mother's Day. The ice cream shop at 9233 S. Western Ave. offers the same promotion for dads on Father's Day.
