LOGAN SQUARE — Logan Square bikers who ride to the "L" stops in the neighborhood should be extra cautious locking up, according to bike theft data compiled by the Chicago Police Department.

Of the 15,259 bikes that have been reported stolen in Chicago since 2010, the locations with the greatest number of thefts in Logan Square have been at the neighborhood's "L" stops.

The crime data provided to DNAinfo was broken down by block.

The top five blocks in Logan Square where the most reported stolen bikes include the locations of both the Logan Square stop and the California stop on the Blue Line.

Two blocks of Milwaukee Avenue, dubbed the "hipster highway" in the past due to high bike traffic, were also in the top five.

1.) 2600 N. Milwaukee Ave. - 41 thefts, 0 recoveries: This includes the heart of Logan Square, the actual square and the Logan Square Blue Line stop.

2.) 2200 N. California Ave. - 31 thefts, 0 recoveries: This includes a stretch of bars and restaurants such as The Boiler Room, Township, Masada and the California Blue Line stop.

3.) 3400 W. Fullerton Ave. - 20 thefts, 0 recoveries: Includes a busy intersection at Fullerton and Kimball avenues.

4.) 2300 N. Milwaukee Ave. - 15 thefts, 0 recoveries: Includes a popular row of bars, restaurants and cafes between Belden and Fullerton that are trafficked by the bike crowd including Revolution Brewing, Cafe Mustache and the Chicago Diner.

5.) 2500 N. Milwaukee Ave. - 14 thefts, 0 recoveries: Another block of Milwaukee Avenue fills out the top 5. This time it's the block directly southeast of the square between Altgeld and Logan Boulevard including New Wave, The Owl and Analogue.

According to city-wide data, The 2600 block of North Milwaukee was tied for the eighth worse block for bike thefts.

It was the only Logan Square block on the city's top 10 list.

Bike advocates recommend registering thefts with the police, but also the Chicago Stolen Bike Registry, a website that provides details on stolen bikes and puts the city's bike community on alert to keep an eye out for the bike.
