No More Snow In Chicago This Spring, Expert Says — How Will You Celebrate?

By Kelly Bauer | April 19, 2016 12:05pm

CHICAGO — The city should be snow-free starting ... now.

There's no snow expected in Chicago this week, said AccuWeather meteorologist Tom Kines, and you'd be betting against the odds if you said it'll snow later this spring.

"I highly doubt it," Kines said. "It's certainly not gonna happen in the next week."

And it's unlikely it'll snow any time after this week, Kines said: It doesn't look like it'll be cold enough.

Plus, it's only snowed after April 26 seven times in the city's recorded history, he said. The city's seen some flurries in late April and early May, but nothing that's accumulated, Kines said. The latest Chicago's had snow was a flurry on May 11, 1966.

"I would say the odds are definitely against it" snowing, Kines said. "Personally, I don't think it will happen."

In fact, the next two weeks will see above-average temperatures, Kines said, though there will also be some rain (including rainfall predicted to hit the city on Sunday).

The end of snow season doesn't mean chilly weather is totally done: There will be some cold days, but by May the normal highs will be in the 60s and a chilly day would land somewhere in the 40s, Kines said.
