CHICAGO — Navy Pier is throwing William Shakespeare a birthday party Saturday, one complete with the pier's first fireworks show of the year.

The fireworks will begin at 10:15 p.m. Saturday in honor of the legendary wordsmith's 400th birthday. Saturday's fireworks show will precede the two fireworks shows a week starting Memorial Day Weekend at the pier.

The fireworks will also kick off an entire year of events the pier has planned for Shakespeare's 400th birthday. Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave., is home to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, which is planning an expansion.
