BUCKTOWN— Thanks to a tip from a resident who witnessed a man trying to break into a Wicker Park building, a 20-year-old man has been charged with a burglary in Bucktown last month, police said.

The burglary, which occurred on March 18 in the 1600 Block of North Bell Ave., was posted on YouTube by Miguel Martinez, the homeowner, last week.

Martinez, told ABC7 that a man took several items from his home and complained that it took police weeks to pick up video that clearly showed the suspect.

"Detectives are actively investigating the incident and they do have the video," police said in a statement last week. "The First Deputy Superintendent has also asked the Chief of Detectives and Chief of Patrol to look into whether this incident was dispatched properly and investigated in accordance with CPD standards and protocols."

At a community meeting last week, residents who live on Bell Avenue complained that police were not working fast enough on burglary cases.

Antwoyn Carroll, 20, of the 1300 block of North Leavitt Street, was arrested Sunday morning in the 2200 block of West Hirsch Street, police said.

Around 11 a.m. Sunday, Carroll was trying to open a door on Hirsch Street, between Oakley and Bell avenues, when a witness to the attempted break-in called 911, police sources said.

Officers happened to be around the corner at the time of the call and ended up getting into a chase as Carroll ran onto the grounds of Sabin Magnet School, sources said.

"Because of this citizen, who also stated that there has been a rash of burglaries in the area, we were able to grab" Carroll, the arresting officer said.

On Sunday, the Tribune reported that Carroll, who also goes by the name Andrew Moffet, is already is on parole in two earlier criminal cases, for which he served time in prison. He also was wanted in connection with a July burglary case, according to court and state Department of Corrections records.

Carroll is scheduled to appear in Cook County Bond Court on Monday.
