Huge Fire Guts 4 Homes In Back Of The Yards, But Everyone Escapes

By Joe Ward | April 15, 2016 7:44am

CHICAGO — Four homes on one Back of the Yards block went up in flames early Friday, leaving 29 people displaced, according to the Fire Department.

The three-alarm fire was sparked about 1:30 a.m. Friday in the 4500 block of South Honore Street, said Cmdr. Frank Velez, Chicago Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze about 4 a.m., but not before it had spread to four homes on the block, Velez said. All the buildings were two-flats or housed multiple families, he said. One building that caught fire was vacant.

Nobody was injured, but 29 people were displaced by the damage, Velez said. Red Cross was helping the displaced, he said.

Fire Department investigators remained on the scene Friday morning, working to determine a cause of the fire, Velez said.
