CHICAGO — All Divvy rides will be free on Friday, April 22 as the bike-sharing service teams up with Naked Juice to celebrate Earth Day, according to the city and the juice company.
One-day passes, including unlimited 30-minute rides, will be free to the public on Earth Day as a way to promote environmentally safe transportation, a Naked Juice representative confirmed.
The free-ride promotion will also mark the first day off the city's second annual Divvy Week, when the city will have daily promotions to help spread the word on the bike-sharing service, said Mike Claffey, spokesman for the Chicago Department of Transportation.
The city will detail plans for Divvy Week on Monday, Claffey said.
"This is a great way to start [Divvy Week] off," Claffey said. "Hopefully we can get people to try it out or sign up [for an annual membership]."
Riders will sign up for the promotion just liked they would purchase any other Divvy ride, Claffey said.
You'll still need to swipe a credit card in order to get a code to check out a bike, but the card will not be charged unless you exceed the half-hour limit for Divvy rides, Claffey said.
Once you dock a Divvy, you can get another free ride by selecting "request a new ride code" at the kiosk.
