CHICAGO — Nontraditional students at Chicago Excel Academy in Roseland are expected to graduate with a high school diploma in two years in the hopes of getting a job.

On Wednesday, the school is bringing employers to them as it hosts its inaugural employment fair.

Chicago Excel Academy, 1257 W. 111th St., caters to 16-21 year olds who may have previously dropped out or did not have the opportunity to go to high school. The school works to equip the students with diplomas as quickly as possible with the aim of getting them a job, the school said in a news release.

To aid in that process, the school is bringing over a dozen companies and nonprofits to help connect the students with potential jobs.

Employers expected to be at the job fair include: Wendy's, Dominos Pizza, Game Stop, Chase Bank, Cook County Forest Preserve, Nike Outlet and Wing Stop, among others.

Students have been learning to write resumes and cover letters in English class, and history classes will help research the companies present to give students a leg up in interviews.

The job fair will be held Wednesday at the school beginning at 11 a.m.
