JEFFERSON PARK — Vandals broke the front windows of Ald. John Arena’s 45th Ward office early Sunday morning, police said.

It appears someone threw a spark plug at the office's front window and glass door between 12:30 and 3:30 a.m., said Owen Brugh, Arena's chief of staff.

No one was hurt in the incident at the ward office at 4754 N. Milwaukee Ave., which was empty at the time, Brugh said, adding that the windows were intact just after midnight when a staffer passed the office. A resident called 911 to report the shattered windows at 3:30 a.m., he said.

No arrests have been made in connection to this incident and investigation is ongoing, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.

No other windows on Milwaukee Avenue in the Jefferson Park Business District were damaged early Sunday morning, officials said.

Because the office has energy-efficient double paned windows, only the outside pane was broken, Brugh said.

It does not appear that any surveillance cameras caught the incident, Brugh said.

The damage is expected to be covered by the office's insurance, which has a $500 deductible. Arlington Glass and Mirror Co., located a few blocks from the alderman's office, has agreed to replace the window, Brugh said.

Repairs are expected to take about a week, Brugh said.

"It is frustrating that the taxpayers will pay to repair this damage," Brugh said.

Neither the office, nor the alderman received any threats last week, Brugh said.
