1 Dead, 7 Wounded In Shootings Since Sunday, Police Say

CHICAGO —  At least eight people were shot — one fatally — in Chicago gun violence since Sunday, according to police.

Four of the eight shooting incidents happened in Austin, police said. Victims of the Sunday shootings include a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy.

The day's lone fatal shooting happened at 11:26 a.m. Sunday in Chicago Lawn, when an 18-year-old man was found dead of gunshot wounds, police said.

Most recently, A 25-year-old man was shot in the 5300 block of West Chicago Avenue at 12:30 a.m. Monday, said Officer Ana Pacheco, Chicago Police spokeswoman.

In the case, the man was a passenger in a car driving westbound on Chicago Avenue when shots rang out, Pacheco said. He was struck in his right foot and was taken to West Suburban Hospital, where he was said to be "stable," Pacheco said. Police could not detail the extent of his injuries.

• A 14-year-old boy was shot in Belmont Cragin Sunday night, Pacheco said.

The boy was with two men in the 5700 block of West Belden Avenue at 10 p.m. when another man walked up and opened fire. The boy was struck in his right hand and was taken to West Suburban Hospital in "stable" condition, Pacheco said.

A person of interest is being questioned in connection with the shooting, police said.

• At 9:37 p.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old man was shot in Austin, Pacheco said.

The man was walking in the 4800 block of West Monroe Street when someone in a passing grey car opened fire, Pacheco said. He was struck in his right arm was was taken by a friend to West Suburban Hospital in "stable" condition, Pacheco said. Police could not detail the extent of his injuries.

• A 43-year-old man was injured in a Chatham shooting Sunday night, Pacheco said.

The man was in the 9200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue at 8:50 p.m. when two men walked up and opened fire, Pacheco said. He was shot in the left hand and both legs and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in "stable" condition, Pacheco said.

He is a documented gang member, according to police.

• A 21-year-old man was shot in South Chicago Sunday night, Pacheco said.

The man was walking in the 8300 block of South Houston Avenue at 8:05 p.m. Sunday when he heard shots and felt pain, Pacheco said. He was grazed in the shoulder and refused medical attention, she said. The man is a documented gang member, police said.

• A 16-year-old boy was shot in his right leg in Austin at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, Pacheco said.

The boy got into a fight with someone who then took out a gun and began firing, Pacheco said. He was struck in his right leg and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, Pacheco said.

A person is in custody and charges are pending, Pacheco said. The shooting victim is a documented gang member, police said.

• A 22-year-old man was shot in the neighborhood Sunday morning, Pacheco said.

The man was in the 100 block of South Leamington Avenue at 8 a.m. when someone opened fire from a passing car, Pacheco said. He was grazed by a bullet and was brought to Loretto Hospital in good condition, Pacheco said.
