BRIDGEPORT — A fire broke out inside a U.S. Cellular Field storage area overnight Friday, injuring one firefighter, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the Cell, 333 W. 35th St., at 2:26 a.m. after an automatic fire alarm was triggered, said Jeff Lyle, a Fire Department spokesman. Ballpark security said a sprinkler system had activated but that firefighters were still needed, Lyle said.

Damage was contained to the promotional items and office supplies in the storage are, said Sheena Davis, White Sox spokeswoman. She said the facility is ready for its home opener at 3:10 p.m. Friday.

"It was nothing that can't be replaced," Davis said. "We are ready for baseball."

Four engines and two trucks responded to the call and put out the fire by 3 a.m., Lyle said.

The fire had started in a storage area and was confined by the sprinklers, he said.

One firefighter was treated for injuries and has since been released from an area hospital, Lyle said.

The fire is still under investigation.
