Wicker Park Muggers Target People 'Distracted By Texting,' Police Say

WICKER PARK — Police are warning Wicker Park residents of a string of robberies that hit the neighborhood during the past week, according to a Monday community alert.

In each incident, police said, two men approached people who were walking home and "maybe distracted by texting," then pulled out guns and rifled through their pockets.

The robberies were reported at the following times and locations:

• The 1400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue at 1:30 a.m. on March 29

• The 1500 block of North Paulina Street at 2:30 a.m. on April 2

• The 1300 block of North Wood Street at 3:30 a.m. on April 2

Police described the suspects as two black men in their 20s. One is described as being between 5 feet 9 inches and and 6 feet tall, and weighing around 170 pounds with a dark complexion and black curly hair. Police described the other man as 5 feet 9 inches tall and around 165 pounds, with a dark complexion.
