CHICAGO — Five children and two adults were injured after a taxi they were in crashed into a building in South Shore on Friday afternoon, according to the Fire Department.

The taxi was driving in the 7100 block of South Yates Boulevard at about 2:30 p.m. when it got into an accident, said Larry Langford, spokesman for the Fire Department.

After the accident, the taxi jumped a curb and rammed over a chain-link fence before crashing into an apartment building, Langford said. The building suffered damage to its foundation, he said.

Five kids who were riding in the taxi were taken to Comer Children's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Langford said.

One adult was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition and another adult was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in serious condition, he said.

All those injured were inside the car, Langford said.

"Nobody got ran over, thankfully," he said.
