WICKER PARK —  Legendary rock band Cheap Trick is coming to Wicker Park's Reckless Records on April 1 — really. A sign in the window of the shop assures passers-by that the appearance is "not a joke."

Set for noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Reckless Records, 1379 N. Milwaukee Ave., the autograph signing will only be available to those who've bought copies of Cheap Trick's new release, "BANG, seek ZOOM, CRAZY…HELLO," according to the band's website.

(Listen to a preview of the album on iTunes.)

Due to time constraints, band members will be unable to pose for photographs and no instruments, memorabilia, posters, etc. will be signed, the band cautions.

Formed in Rockford in 1973, some of Cheap Trick's biggest hits include "Surrender," "I Want You to Want Me" and "Dream Police."

The hardworking foursome is known for its four decades of near continuous touring and has performed over 5,000 times, according to reports. Including the latest release, they've produced 17 albums since 1977 and are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony April 8 in New York.

Cheap Trick lead guitarist Rick Nielsen is locally known as being an investor in Piece Brewery & Pizzeria, a popular Wicker Park staple at 1937 W. North Ave.

The current members of the band joining Nielsen are Robin Zander (vocals, rhythm guitar), Tom Petersson (bass guitar) and Daxx Nielsen (drums).
