EDGEBROOK — Teachers at Edgebrook Elementary School oppose plans to hold a one-day strike April 1 — but will honor the Chicago Teachers Union picket line, they told parents in a letter sent home Tuesday.
The letter, signed by 27 teachers, told parents that they would "much rather be in the classroom, teaching our students," than outside protesting state funding and local school management.
The staff of Edgebrook Elementary School, 6525 N. Hiawatha Ave., "overwhelmingly voted NOT to use April 1, 2016 as a strike day. Unfortunately, our vote was in the minority."
But despite their opposition, the Edgebrook teachers said they would reject district CEO Forrest Claypool's call to cross the picket line and prepare to teach their classes as usual. Claypool has repeatedly called the union's planned work stoppage "illegal."
"Although it is a difficult choice for us we will stand in support of our union's majority vote demanding funding for our schools," the teachers wrote. "Therefore we will not attend school on this date."

Union bylaws call for teachers to observe all work actions approved by a majority of the House of Delegates.
CPS released a list of the 250 sites Tuesday, including 107 schools, 80 Park District locations, all 80 Public Library branches and some Safe Haven sites. Parents looking for a place to drop off their kids can also call the city's 311 line.
