Austin Shooting Kills 19-Year-Old As He Rode on Bike Outside, Police Say

CHICAGO — A 19-year-old man was shot to death while riding a bike in Austin on Tuesday, police said.

At 9:30 a.m., the man was riding his bike in the 1500 block of North Lockwood when someone walked up to him and fired shots, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokesman.

He was shot multiple times in his torso and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, Sweeney said. He was later pronounced dead.

The man was identified as Cashes McCree, of the 900 block of North Lockwood Avenue, in Cook County Medical Examiner's records. McCree was pronounced dead at 10:06 a.m.

No one was in custody.

The victim was a documented gang member, police said.
