WICKER PARK — A vintage building along Wicker Park's Milwaukee Avenue that's sat empty since Rodan shuttered in September and Reckless Records relocated up the street is undergoing an interior revamp to make it more appealing to prospective tenants.

Located at 1530-1532 N. Milwaukee Ave., the two-story, 10,000-square-foot building was bought in January 2013 by a New York-based firm, Jenel Management, county records show.

A building permit for a $135,000 interior renovation was issued in February.

The ground floor and second floor of the building will be torn out and readied for a retail sales, according to the permit.

Reached on Monday, Joseph Dushey, owner of the building, said that a tenant has not been finalized yet and the space, described in a real estate brochure as a "premium leasing opportunity" is still for rent.

Dushey said the purpose of the construction is to rehab the 1930s-era building to create "a vanilla box," referring to real estate term for a storefront that is totally bare and prepped for a new tenant or tenants.

Back in 2013, Dushey, said he sees Wicker Park as "a young SoHo," referencing the Lower Manhattan neighborhood in New York City known for artistic and eclectic boutiques. SoHo is also a magnet for national and international chain retailers.
