CHICAGO— When it comes to sampling the best pizza Chicago has to offer, an unlikely demographic is starting make its case known to the masses.
Since DNAinfo posted a series of pictures showing squirrels eating pizza across the city, Chicagoans have sent in pictures of Pizza Squirrel sightings:
Lincoln Square resident Erika Claich had her first sighting of a Pizza Squirrel last year. She sent DNAinfo a photo after she saw the most recent one.
"I was walking home from the Rockwell Brown Line stop and all of a sudden a squirrel runs onto the sidewalk right in front of me carrying a huge piece of pizza in its mouth," Claich said."I had just heard about pizza rat in NYC, so I really couldn't believe it."
Claich said that seeing Pizza Squirrel brought unexpected joy to her day.
"I was laughing so much it was actually a little hard for me to get my phone out to take a picture, so I ended up following the squirrel up the street a bit," Claich said. "I completely expected him to drop it and run off before I could get my shot, but I got lucky because he ended up going up some stairs and had his lunch on someone's front porch, which is where I finally got my shot. It totally made my day."
