AUSTIN— A man and a 13-year-old boy were wounded in separate West Side shootings on Friday, police said.
At 8:30 p.m., a 13-year-old boy was standing on the sidewalk in the 5500 block of West Jackson Boulevard in Austin when he was shot near an altercation between two groups, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
The boy who was shot in the back was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital. Police could not provide his condition but said he was "stable."
Earlier that day, at 5:30 p.m., a 30-year-old man drove himself to West Suburban Hospital after being shot in the 4900 block of West Augusta Boulevard, Sedevic said.
The man, who was driving when he heard shots and felt pain, was shot in the leg was treated and released, Sedevic said.
The man is documented gang member, Sedevic said.
No one is in custody for the shootings, Sedevic said.
