DOWNTOWN — Police have alerted Near North residents to three more overnight robberies in River North and Streeterville, the latest in a trend that's persisted since late last year.

The robberies occurred:

• Early March 12 in the 400 Block of North State Street.

• Early March 14 in the 600 Block of North Fairbanks Court

• Late March 17 in the first block of West Hubbard Street

In the crimes, police said one or more men approach victims and demand their belongings. Police did not have more information on the suspects.

River North robberies became more prevalent beginning late last year, and since Jan. 1 have risen to their highest levels since at least 2005. There were 42 robberies from Jan. 1 to March 14 in the five police beats encompassing River North and Streeterville, up from the 22 robberies there over the same period last year, according to city records.

Police are advising neighbors to remain aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity. Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call 312-747-8382.
