CHICAGO — For the students and families waiting to know whether they got into a Chicago Public Schools selective-enrollment or magnet elementary school, the wait is almost over.

Decision letters for those who applied to the selective-enrollment schools will be mailed out Monday, March 28, according to CPS. If a student receives an acceptance letter, the family will have until April 15 to accept or decline, CPS said.

Each year students get the chance to place into one of the city's selective enrollment elementary as well as high schools. The deadline to apply for next school year was Dec. 11.

Students have to test if they are interested in selective-enrollment schools including regional gifted centers, classical schools, academic centers and international gifted programs, according to CPS. Magnet schools admit students by lottery.

Families will be sent one letter for each program to which the student applied, according to CPS fact sheet on the admissions process.

CPS said it will not give out admissions results over the phone. If you have not received a mailed response by April 1, you can call the office of access and enrollment 773-553-2060.
