CHICAGO — Sunday may be the first official day of spring, but that doesn't mean winter is finished with us.

After a mild start to the week, Thursday and Friday will be cold and rainy with a decent chance of snow, according to meteorologists from the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 60 degrees Tuesday and into the mid-50s on Wednesday, meteorologist Andrew Krein said.

They'll be followed by heavy rain during the day Thursday with a chance of thunderstorms, Krein added, and a chance of snow as temperatures dip below freezing Thursday night.

Still, Krein said, the relative warmth and wetness of the ground will make it difficult for any snow to stick.

"We're looking at a very short window of opportunity Thursday night for anything to accumulate," Krein said. "Based on the conditions, it looks like almost all of it will melt on contact."

Temperatures are forecast to bounce back into the mid-40s by midday Friday, he added.
