10 Wounded In Citywide Shootings Since Saturday Morning, Police Say

CHICAGO — Ten people were hurt in shootings around the city between Saturday morning and Sunday morning, police said.

An off-duty officer shot a man who hit him multiple times with a baseball bat in Belmont Cragin late Saturday night, according to a police statement.

A 36-year-old man was shot in his leg while walking in Little Village earlier Saturday afternoon, police said.

• Most recently, around 5 a.m. Sunday, a 27-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 4900 block of South Laflin Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood when someone shot him in his chest, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. 

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, Sedevic said, where he was listed in critical condition.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.

• About a half hour earlier, a 31-year-old man was shot in his leg in the 7900 block of South Eberhart Avenue, Sedevic said.

The man was brought to Stroger Hospital, Sedevic said, where he was listed in good condition.

Police could not immediately provide any other information on the shooting.

• Around 3 a.m., a 30-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 7000 block of South Eberhart Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood when someone shot him in his back, Sedevic said.

The man was brought to Mount Sinai Hospital, Sedevic said, where he was listed in fair condition.

• An hour earlier, Sedevic said, a 41-year-old man was walking in an alley in the 9600 block of South Ewing Avenue in East Side when someone shot at him out of a black Chrysler car.

The man was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition with a gunshot wound in his left leg, Sedevic said.

• Just after midnight, a 37-year-old man was sitting in a car stopped at stop sign in the 8500 block of South Paulina Avenue in Auburn Gresham when someone shot him multiple times in the side of his body, Sedevic said.

The man was brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center, Sedevic said. Police could not provide his condition but said he was "stable."

• Around 9 p.m., a 22-year-old man was sitting in a van in the 3500 block of West Fulton Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood when someone shot at him from a Chevrolet Malibu, Sedevic said.

The man brought himself to Rush Hospital, Sedevic said, where he was listed in good condition with a gunshot wound in his left leg.

• At 3:25 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Sedevic said, a man and a woman were driving in the 900 block of North Central Avenue in Austin when someone pulled up alongside them in a red SUV and shot at them.

They drove themselves to West Suburban Hospital, Sedevic said.

The man, 32, was listed in serious condition with gunshot wounds in his left arm and left leg and was transferred to Stroger Hospital for treatment, Sedevic said.

The woman, 23, was listed in fair condition with a gunshot wound in her left leg.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings, police said.
