NOBLE SQUARE — Unite Urban Grill has closed its doors along a changing stretch of Chicago Avenue packed with independently owned shops and restaurants.

Owned by husband-and-wife team Joe and Megan Krouse, Unite Urban Grill opened in November 2013 and served its final dinner on March 10, Joe Krouse said.

The news was announced in an email to customers on Wednesday night as well as on Facebook.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce the closing of Unite Urban Grill. It has been our greatest pride to serve you these past years and we are so grateful to our guests, staff, families and friends for the remarkable experience here in West Town," the Krouses wrote.

The storefront at 1450 W. Chicago Ave. was previously home to Leopold, another restaurant, before Unite Urban Grill replaced it. Serving up veggies for the health-conscious as well as meat, Unite's kitchen was led by chef Bradford Phillips, formerly of the Pump Room.

News of the closure has hit customers hard.

"I'm so saddened by this. It was such a fantastic restaurant with the greatest staff. You were always so kind and made us feel welcomed even with the kids. This spot will be very missed by us ... and the whole neighborhood in general," one fan wrote on the restaurant's Facebook page, which is quickly filling up with messages.

In addition to Unite Urban Grill, the Krouses also operate Evanston's Ten Mile House and a soon-to-launch neighboring sweet shop, DB3 Donuts.
