Watch Out For Robberies in Deering District, Police Say

By Ed Komenda | March 16, 2016 4:17pm

ARMOUR SQUARE — There’s been a flurry of robberies in the area since Tuesday morning, according to Deering District detectives.

Police say the crimes took place:

• At 8:35 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of West 23rd Street.

• At 8:40 a.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of West 28th Street.

• At 7:40 a.m. Wednesday in the 2200 block of South Archer Avenue.

Police say the offender is a Hispanic man between 20-30 years old. He stands between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-9 and weighs 160 pounds.

Here’s what Chicago Police say you can do to stay safe:

• Be aware of your surroundings.

• Report all suspicious activity.

• If you are confronted by a robber, stay calm.

• Remember the robber’s physical characteristics, such as scars, acne, crooked teeth or a limp.

• Never chase a fleeing robber.

• Request contact information from witnesses.

• After a crime, dial 9-1-1, and — if possible — remain on scene until police arrive.

Anyone with information about the recent robberies should call detectives at 312-747-8382.
