BRIDGEPORT — Perhaps it's another sign spring has sprung in Bridgeport: A sweet Chicago Police golf cart rolling up and down Halsted Street.

This tiny ride was spotted last week parked outside Windy City Hardware, 3316 S. Halsted St.

Since the weather has been warmer in the neighborhood, some beat cops have been using the cart — complete with a Chicago Police seal on the front — to patrol the stretch of Halsted between 31st and 35th streets.

There are only three cop carts in the city: One in Bridgeport, another at the Lincoln Park Zoo and another with the Office of Emergency Management and Communications.

Some officers call the cart the "Popemobile," a cheeky reference to the protective vehicles used by the Catholic Pope during public appearances.

With an eight-hour battery life, the electric cart seats four, comes equipped with seatbelts and can drive at a top-speed of 30 mph.

Police say the cart is easy to drive — and it beats walking.
