LOGAN SQUARE — A burger and fry joint that's set to open in Logan Square next month hopes to fill a late-night munchies void.

Flavors are big, with seasonings for fries such as Cool Ranch (the Doritos flavor), ramen seasoning, cheddar dust and togarashi (a Japanese spice blend).

Small Fry, which is preparing to open in early April at 2491 N. Milwaukee Ave., will serve up four main items: burgers, a chicken thigh sandwich, a veggie burger and fries, with each item priced at $10 or less.

The burgers and chicken sandwich are somewhat straightforward, but the fries offer an array of seasoning options, a handful of cheese sauces and poutine-style toppings like carnitas, Reuben, baked potato, actual poutine, meatballs and a Wellington-style. The fries will all be triple-fried with a variety of seasonings, including herbs, salt and pepper, everything (similar to an everything bagel) and umami salt, in addition to those listed above.

"It's elevated fast food. The stuff we like to eat," said Colin Kelahan, the general manager.

The shop will be open most days from 11 a.m.-2 a.m. in a part of the neighborhood that has been turning into a sort of nightlife district.

"I know they needed some late-night options," said Egan Quinn, owner of Small Fry. He previously worked the front of house at Bohemian House as well as with Paramount Events, a catering company. This will be his first restaurant.

The burgers will each have two patties, pressed on a griddle and topped with homemade pickles, onion, special sauce and house-made cheese.

The chicken sandwiches will slightly resemble those from Chick-fil-A, but will be made from chicken thighs (not breasts) and will come in either plain, spicy, garlic or Asian variety.

Kelahan, who Quinn met while studying at DePaul University, will be the general manager. Kelahan, an entrepreneur, was previously a partner at Caviar, a food delivery service, and was the general manager in Chicago.

Small Fry's owner said he not only plans to fill a late-night eats void in the restaurant, but also through delivery. There's currently no good burgers available via delivery in the neighborhood, Quinn said.

Small Fry has brought in a few local artists to help with the design and logo including Sarah Becan, Left Handed Wave and Colin Ofloy.
