BRIDGEPORT — Neighborhood folks should be on the lookout for armed robbers, according to Deering District detectives.

Over the past month, there has been a rash of robberies in the area.

Police say the crimes took place:

• At 3:09 p.m. Feb. 14 in the 5000 block of South Paulina Street.

• At 4:45 p.m. Feb. 21 in the 4900 block of South Winchester Avenue.

• At 10 p.m. Feb. 21 in the 300 block of West Cermak Road.

• At 11:30 a.m. Feb. 29 in the 400 block of West 24th Place.

• At 12:30 a.m. March 2 in the 4800 block of South Wolcott Avenue.

Police say the offenders are slim men, between 20-25 years old, standing between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot-1 with brown eyes and black hair.

Here’s what Chicago Police say you can do to stay safe:

• Be aware of your surroundings.

• Report all suspicious activity.

• If you are confronted by a robber, stay calm.

• Remember the robber’s physical characteristics, such as scars, acne, crooked teeth or a limp.

• Never chase a fleeing robber.

• Request contact information from witnesses.

• After a crime, dial 9-1-1, and — if possible — remain on scene until police arrive.

Anyone with information about the recent robberies should call detectives at 312-747-8382.
