CHICAGO — Police say Buy-Low Liquors in West Humboldt Park wasn't just buying low, it was buying stolen.

High-end booze from suburban stores including Mariano's and Jewel was stolen and then fenced at Buy-Low at 4301 W. North Ave, police said.

The owners of Buy-Low were arrested following a multi-agency investigation into a fencing operation that led the store to sell stolen goods, Chicago Police said in a news release.

Investigators conducted multiple undercover operations where they sold supposedly "stolen" goods to Buy-Low, police said.

Chicago Police, in conjunction with multiple suburban agencies, executed 12 search warrants on March 1. Three people were arrested and have been charged with theft, continuing criminal enterprise and money laundering, police said.

The names of those arrested was not released by police.

Police seized over $100,000 in cash, more than 100 bottles of high-end alcohol and one illegally possessed handgun.

Building inspectors with the city also visited Buy-Low and found the facility to be in violation of multiple city codes. The inspectors closed the building, according to police.

The investigation began in early January, after the New Lenox Police Department asked Chicago Police to help look into the operation. The Des Plaines and Northbrook police departments also had a hand in the investigation, according to Chicago Police.
