MAGNIFICENT MILE — Apparel at the Sports Authority store in Water Tower Place is already on sale as the retailer prepares to close stores as part of its bankruptcy.

Discounts at the store on the third floor of the vertical mall, 845 N. Michigan Ave., are ranging from 10 percent to 30 percent, an employee said. No closing date has been determined yet.

Sports Authority, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Wednesday, said it will close 140 stores as the company reorganizes. The store at Water Tower Place is the only store set to be closed in city limits, according to the Wall Street Journal

Spokespeople for Englewood, Colo.-based Sports Authority and Chicago-based General Growth Properties, which owns Water Tower Place, did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
