UPTOWN — Courtney Language Arts Center will host meetings for the Townhall District's Beat 1913 and Sheridan Park Neighbors Tuesday.

The Beat 1913 meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the school at 4420 N. Beacon St. Beat 1913 is bordered by Montrose Avenue on the south, Lawrence Avenue on the north, Broadway on the east and Clark Street on the west.

The Sheridan Park Neighbors meeting, where members will vote on officer structure and set up by-laws, will directly follow the CAPS meeting. Its agenda includes: updates on the neighborhood for the new year, hearing from block clubs, Cedar Street developments, an update on the Child Parent Center at Courtenay, and other issues.

In February, Courtenay moved classes from the Child Parent Center into the Language Arts Center a few blocks away as they dealt with repairing flooding issues in the building. The school has been dealing with the issue since October, but the school's principal Macquline King said the move wasn't permanent.

"Until the repairs can be made, we're just trying to make [the students] more comfortable," King said.

Speakers at the meeting Tuesday include: Ald. James Cappleman's office, Uptown United, Voice of the People, staff at Courtenay and local business owners.
