'Brave Rat' Refuses To Leave Chicago Clinic, Broom or No Broom (VIDEO)

LINCOLN PARK — If you can't stand the sight of rats, look away.

But if you're slightly intrigued, particularly with the persistent ones, take a look at this video of a rat who doesn't fear the broom. The staff of a Lincoln Park urgent care center say this video was shot outside their door Sunday.

Chicagoist reports that the rat battle went down at an urgent care clinic on North Avenue and LaSalle Street.

The rat's worthy, broom-wielding adversary, DNAinfo has learned, was an X-ray technician named John. John declined to give his last name.

"We've never had any kind of rat issues before, so we just don't want people to be getting the wrong idea about us," John said.

He said the rat's tenacity was never enough to bring it into the actual clinic — the staff found it hiding behind boxes in the building's indoor vestibule.

"They called me over and I grabbed the broom to see if I could free him back into the outside world," John said, laughing. "I tried to be as gentle as I could, but he really, really wanted to get inside."

The entire battle lasted around two minutes, John said, meaning that the video only captured the second half the event.

Faced with the prospect of becoming a minor Internet celebrity, John was nonplussed.

"I don't really get what the big deal is...it's not like he was dangerous or trying to bite anyone," he said. "It was just a really brave rat."
