WICKER PARK —  Officials from home improvement giant Lowe's say its new store in the Wicker Commons shopping mall is scheduled to have a "soft opening" on April 15.

Located at 1360 N. Ashland Ave., the store was previously a Kmart, which opened in 1991 and shuttered last spring.

On Monday, a hiring manager at Lowe's temporary interviewing center said that about 145 new jobs have been created to staff the store, which includes an indoor lumber yard.  So far, just over two-thirds of those positions have been filled, the manager said.

Lowe's hiring office at 1300 N. Ashland Ave. is next to ATI Physical Therapy.  Applicants can apply in person or online.

Construction on the Lowe's began last spring.

A Lowe's spokeswoman said on Monday that grand opening festivities will start May 12.

In recent months, Ulta replaced a shuttered Staples at the Commons.  In addition to Jewel, the mall's other major tenant is a Pet Supplies Plus, which opened in 2014.
