This Weekend in Uptown: Coheed and Cambria, Free Coffee and HUB Day

UPTOWN — Whether you're an urban gardener or coffee fanatic, there's plenty to do in Uptown and Andersonville this weekend.

Here are six events in the 'hoods you might want to check out:

1. Coheed and Cambria at the Aragon Ballroom: The progressive rock band from New York will stop at the Aragon for "The Color Before the Sun" tour Friday. Coheed and Cambria will be joined by Glassjaw, I the Mighty and the Silver Snakes. Tickets for the general admission show are $35. 7 p.m. 1106 W. Lawrence Ave.

2. Midwest Aeropress Championship at Everybody's Coffee: Two words: free coffee. The best brewers around will square off in a competition "to make an espresso-strength coffee without an espresso machine." AeroPress is a coffee-brewing system developed by Alan Adler, who specialized in making plastic toys. The event, which features free coffee, treats, samples and demonstrations, will begin with free coffee and demonstrations at 3 p.m. Saturday. 3. Learn about the Orphan Train at the Swedish American Museum: Before foster care was organized in America in the 1920s, the orphan train movement, a supervised welfare program, moved orphaned children from Eastern cities to the Midwest. Saturday's genealogy session at the Swedish American Museum will feature a movie on the topic. Free for members with a $10 suggested donation for non-members. 10 a.m.-noon. 5211 N. Clark St.

4. Seed Swap and Community HUB Day: The Institute of Cultural Affairs GreenRise "aims to build community by cultivating spaces locally for residents to learn and share skills that promote sustainable behaviors" with its seed swap and community HUB day. Saturday's HUB day is garden focused and workshops will include "Gardening in Uptown: Creating a Local Garden Walk," "Accessing Citywide Resources" and a hands-on workshop to share gardening secrets. 5. Live Music at the Green Mill: The jazz spot has two live performances Saturday evening including the Jim Trompeter Quintet featuring Ralph Bowen (8 p.m.-midnight) and the After Hours Jazz Party featuring the Sabertooth Organ Quartet (from midnight-5 a.m.). $15 cover. 4802 N. Broadway.

6. Hoodie Allen at the Riviera Theatre: New York hip hop artist Hoodie Allen stops by the Riviera Theatre Saturday with SuperDuperKyle and Black Bear. Seating at the Riviera is general admission. Tickets for the all-ages show are $30. 7 p.m. 4746 N. Racine Ave.
