CHICAGO — Anyone looking for one last chance to enjoy one of the city's eight outdoor public ice rinks has until Monday to hit the ice, according to Chicago Park District officials.
The district is sticking by its schedule to close the rinks after Feb. 28, but even in the interim, the rinks will only be operating "weather-permitting," according to Park District spokeswoman Jessica Maxey Faulkner. And given forecasts of temperatures pushing 60-degrees this weekend, the weather may not cooperate.
It would be a fitting end to a mild winter for ice rinks, when unusually warm weather repeatedly put skating on hold.
Millennium Park's ice rink, however, which is managed by the city, will remain open through March 6.
In years past, the park district has allowed the rinks to stay open longer when the skating season was limited because of snow or warm weather, but district officials said they did not plan to attempt that this year.
Meanwhile, the city's two public indoor ice rinks will remain open, Maxey-Faulkner said. They are the McFetridge Ice Rink, 3843 N. California Ave., and the Morgan Park Sports Center ice rink, 11505 S. Western Ave.
