THE LOOP — Keeping up the pressure on elected officials and school administrators Friday, dozens of Chicago Public Schools students rallied outside the Thompson Center to protest $120 million of mid-year budget cuts announced earlier this month.
“These cuts are unacceptable and unwarranted," student organizer Charles Kotrba wrote on the event page. "The day we, the students, sit idly by and let Rahm Emanuel, Bruce Rauner, and Forrest Claypool fire our teachers and cut our school budgets is the day we lose the fight for a decent education. We aren’t done fighting.”
Unlike other "walk-in" protests held at schools in recent weeks, which were organized in part by Chicago Teachers Union leaders, students appear to be the leading force behind Friday's protest — dubbed #FedUpFriday.
