ROGERS PARK — A woman who was attacked in Rogers Park Monday evening said she had just got off a train in Rogers Park when she was struck from behind during a robbery attempt, police said.

According to the police report, the 35-year-old woman was walking eastbound around 6:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of West Lunt Avenue when a man repeatedly began to hit her in the head and face with a closed fist, causing her to fall forward onto the ground.

The robber demanded the woman's phone and "stuff," at which point she told police she briefly lost consciousness.

At one point, the woman said she heard the attacker say to another man with him, "B---- are you going to help me or not?" before continuing to hit her while she was on the ground.

Eventually, a man who had witnessed some of the attack jumped in to intervene, saying he would have helped earlier but was afraid.

The woman asked a family member nearby to call police as she ran home, and she ultimately was taken to St. Francis hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

An NBC-5 report said the woman was able to escape with her belongings in tow, though in an interview with the victim, she tearfully recalls the attack.

"I'm real scared," she said. " ... They broke my nose, I have a lump in my forehead and the back of my head, and I have bruises on the back of my leg and my back, my shoulder."

While the NBC5 report indicated the attack was outside the CTA Red Line's Morse station, the police report said it was near a Metra stop, which is at 1800 W. Lunt Avenue.

The woman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

No arrests have been made in the attack.
