JEFFERSON PARK — A man chased and tried to kidnap two girls, ages 8 and 11, walking near Our Lady of Victory church and school Monday evening, police said.

Police on Thursday warned Portage Park residents to be on the lookout for a light-skinned Hispanic man between the ages of 30 and 35, between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build. He has a short beard and was wearing an orange knit hat, green winter coat and blue jeans.

While the girls were walking along Agatite Avenue near Sunnyside Avenue at 5:10 p.m. Monday, they noticed an older, clean green minivan with tinted windows park behind them, police said.

The man got out of the van and began to chase the girls along Agatite. The girls ran and were able to get away from the man and alert their parents, police said.

Anyone with information on the man is asked to call Area Central detectives at 312-744-8200
