DOWNTOWN — The CTA is ready for Wednesday night's blizzard, a spokeswoman said.

There will be regular bus and rail service for the afternoon commute, said spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski, and crews have already been sent out to make sure buses, trains and facilities are "prepared and running fine."

"They're working hard to make sure that our buses and trains will run on schedule," Hosinski said.

Buses might travel slower than usual due to the snow, Hosinski said, but the city has deployed hundreds of trucks to clear the streets.

"We didn't see any unexpected increases during the morning commute," Hosinski said. "Right now we are expecting our usual evening commute."

Commuters should go to the CTA's website, transitchicago.com, before they leave to make sure buses and trains are running on time, Hosinski said.

Metra was also preparing for the weather, sending out extra crews to clear away snow and putting down salt at stations in the areas hardest hit by the storm.

City officials urged residents to drive cautiously and plan for extra time for travel. The city also encouraged residents and businesses to shovel their sidewalks and corners.
