UPTOWN — A 31-year-old man was in serious condition after falling from a short height at an Uptown high-rise apartment building, Fire Department officials said Thursday.

At 1:11 p.m., responders found the man with "trauma injuries" just outside the building, 4100 N. Marine Dr., according to Fire Department Chief Juan Hernandez. The man reported that he fell a distance of "seven to eight feet," Hernandez said.

Fire officials first tweeted that the man was "rescued from [a] shaft," but Hernandez later said he didn't think the man fell in an elevator shaft, calling it one of "a couple stories that have gotten around."

A building manager inside the complex later said the incident "had nothing to do with the elevator," and that he had no further comment.
