CHICAGO — A 23-year-old man who had been missing for almost two months was found shot to death near Avalon Park on Tuesday.

Iaron Brooks, of the 7800 block of South South Shore Drive, was last seen on Christmas Eve. On Tuesday, his mother, Bonnette Brooks, posted on Facebook that she had received a tip that her son's body was near Avalon Park and she asked people to help her search for him.

"[Please] come out and let's try to find Iaron [please]," Brooks posted on Facebook. "This is going too far and these days are definitely adding up."

The family, searching near the park, did find Iaron Brooks' body, Bonnette Brooks told CBS.

Police were called to an abandoned railroad property in the 1200 block of East 83rd Street, where they found the man's body, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:10 p.m., according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records.

A Wednesday autopsy showed Brooks died from multiple gunshot wounds in a homicide, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.

Police are conducting a death investigation, Tannehill said.

In the weeks before Iaron Brooks was found, his family had raised money to offer as a reward for information about Brooks. Bonnette Brooks posted emotional videos on Facebook, asking anyone who had information about her son's disappearance or apparent death to come forward.

"Go beyond your bitterness. Go beyond your hate," Brooks pleaded in a video posted on Facebook. "Go beyond this secret ... . I'm pleading. It's been too long.

"Please give me my son's body so I can get past this. This hurt is killing me."
