WEST RIDGE — Ever wondered what it's like to be a member of the City Council?

By bidding on an "Alderman For The Day" experience through Stone Scholastic Academy's online auction, one person will get to spend a day with Ald. Debra Silverstein (50th) and find out.

Proceeds from the auction, which runs until Sunday at 10 p.m., will go toward Stone's arts and technology enrichment program. Stone recently saw $101,763 (or 3.18 percent of its annual budget) in cuts as part of Chicago Public Schools district-wide plan to save $120 million.

Bidders have an array of over 200 unique items and experiences to choose from — like a chance to be on 101.9 FM radio with Eric and Kathy, swimming and improv lessons, art, signed Chicago sports jerseys, and even being principal at Stone for the day.

Among the prizes is the opportunity to spend a day with Silverstein at a City Council meeting where the winner can meet and pose for pictures with Mayor Rahm Emanuel, followed by lunch where the alderwoman will "answer any questions you may have about the inner workings of this great city of ours," she wrote in an email to residents.

On the final day of the auction, Feb. 21, Stone will also hold a 3 p.m. performance of "The Old Friends" by Horton Foote at Raven Theater, 6157 N. Clark St. in Edgewater, with ticket proceeds going toward the school.
