WEST LAWN — One man has died and two others were wounded after a shooting in West Lawn early Saturday, according to officials.

Three men were in the 6800 block of South Lawndale Avenue around 2 a.m. when they were shot, Sedevic said, citing preliminary information. At the time of the shooting, Sedevic said, witnesses reported men shooting at each other from two cars.

The men brought themselves to Holy Cross Hospital and were transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, Sedevic said.

One of the men, 23, was listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound in his chest, Sedevic said.

He was later identified as Vicente Avila, of the 5400 block of South Moody, and he was pronounced dead at 5:30 a.m., according to county morgue officials.

Police could not immediately provide the conditions of the other two men, 22 and 25.

Police said all three men are documented gang members.
