Woman Steals Pizza Delivery Car To Drive Drunk Husband Home, Police Say

By Mark Schipper | February 12, 2016 1:53pm

ROGERS PARK — A pizza delivery man who left his SUV running while dropping off an order had it stolen from him by a woman who later told police she needed to drive her drunk husband home, police said.

The J.B. Alberto’s driver told police he left his Mitsubishi Montero running Feb. 4 while doing a late night delivery in the 1400 block of West Lunt Avenue.

When he returned, he saw the SUV being commandeered by a couple who then drove off, police said.

He called police, and officers spotted the green SUV headed east on Greenleaf before it turned north onto Ashland just after midnight. They caught up to the couple in the 1500 block of West Touhy Avenue, where they were stopped, police said.

Police said Brittney Green, 28, was behind the wheel. A drunken man was sprawled across the passenger seat, police said.

Green, apparently confused by the officer’s question of what she was doing behind the wheel, said she was sober driving because her husband was too drunk to do it himself, police said.

Police arrested Green and man, Michael Bauer, 47. The couple allegedly had Xanax and methamphetamine with them, police said.

They were charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle and endangering the life of a child. The latter charge came because Bauer told officers he had left his 1-year-old son home alone and that no one was there to watch him, according to a police report.

Officers went to the man’s house and rescued the child, delivering him to a grandfather, according to the report.
