BEVERLY — Chicago Public Schools throughout the 19th Ward will collectively lose $790,078 in the district's mid-year budget cuts.

On Tuesday, CPS announced $120 million in cuts districtwide facing stalled negotiations with the Chicago Teachers Union. Combined with other cost-cutting measures, officials said the move could save the district up to $325 million each year.

Of the schools in Beverly, Mount Greenwood and portions of Morgan Park, Keller Regional Gifted Center in Mount Greenwood stands to lose the highest percent of its overall budget. Keller will lose $39,043 or 3.22 percent of its budget.

Chad Syverson, of Beverly, is the chairman of the Local School Council at Keller. He said any cut to the elementary school with just 250 students will hurt. That said, school leaders don't anticipate losing staff or dropping any existing programs.

The ability to absorb such cuts comes from a mid-year staff change at Keller — unrelated to the current CPS budget issues. Rather than hire a replacement, these funds were kept in reserve in case of a cut, Syverson said.

"We have been especially careful about prioritizing things throughout this budget year in order to mitigate the impact of budget reductions," said Syverson said via email.

Meanwhile, Morgan Park High School stands to lose the most in terms of overall dollars. The cuts will cost the high school at 1744 W. Pryor Ave. $176,437 or 1.78 percent of its budget. Across CPS, public schools lost an average of 1.4 percent.
